A new personal website

No comments on A new personal websiteI am a fan of personal websites. I kind of think that everyone should have one – or at least everyone who is engaged with the online world should have one. It doesn’t have to be complicated. A single page with a brief introduction to who you are and some relevant links can be enough. Having a simple personal home on the Internet is also very much in the spirit of the open web. A…

Two Wheels Good: Roger Symonds’ cycling blog

At the end of the summer last year I gave my good friend Roger Symonds a hand setting up his new blog about cycling. I helped him with the technical stuff and made sure it was up and running properly. I was particularly pleased with the banner graphic I created for it. But I’d neglected to promote it here — so I am remedying that today. Roger seems to have had a bit of a break…

Previously, on Earth
The bad news is that I seemed to have overlooked the fact that Alix Mortimer has started blogging again — why did nobody tell me? The good news is that I now have loads of extremely well written, and funny, posts to read to catch up — and mostly about history too. 🙂

Random Thoughts for 21st October 2013: An insomnia fuelled catch up
Not much blogging going on here at the moment. There are reasons for that, although we won’t go into that now, and I am wondering if I ought to change my approach. There doesn’t seem to be much focus or direction to this blog when I do post. However, (and as if to handily illustrate that randomness) I will make use of a night of serious insomnia to catch up with posting some links. So…

Welcome to 2013
A happy new year to the small (and probably dwindling) band that are the readers of this blog. I hope you have a successful and prosperous 2013. I had a very busy period of work and then Christmas hit — so I failed to post anything here in December. Which means there are one or two things to catch up on as well as the usual task of looking back and then forward that this time of…

Top of the Blogs squared
I’ve been busy with work over the last few days and have not been paying much attention to this blog — but I’ve just noticed that this post has appeared in Liberal Democrat Voice’s Top of the Blogs feature two weeks running – here and here. I’m sure it was an oversight rather than a judgement that my insights deserved double exposure — but I’m not complaining! Thanks Helen 😉 Source: This content was originally…

Top five posts of 2011
According to Google Analytics these are the five most viewed posts on this blog during 2011. While I seem to have a readership that comes here via the Lib Dem Blogs aggregator and Lib Dem Voice, and I have seen an increase in links from Facebook and Twitter, the most popular posts have been those that people have found when Googling for information about the EDL rally in Luton at the beginning of the year…

This blog come 94th in the top 100 Lib Dem blogs
I was somewhat surprised, although very pleased, to learn today that this blog has been awarded 94th place in Total Politics magazine’s list of the top 100 Lib Dem blogs 2011. While I occasionally have had posts chosen for Lib Dem Voice’s Golden Dozen, this is the first time I’ve had an award like this. I get a snazzy badge as well. Thank you to the folks at Total Politics and those that voted etc.…

Would you like some tea?
I’m aware that I should be writing up my reactions to the Social Liberal Forum conference, including my bloggers’ interview with Evan Harris, as well as carrying on with my other series of posts. However, as you can see from the photograph below, I have been somewhat unusually detained over the last few days. Something that also coincided with my fortieth birthday. Normal service will resume shortly. I hope….. Source: This content was originally…

The best of my Process Guy blog
Before I set up this blog at the end of 2009, my first attempt at blogging was a a blog I called ‘Process Guy’ that ran between September 2006 and March 2009. For archive purposes it can still be found at processguy.blogspot.com. In the post I wrote yesterday about internal party election rules I referred back to something that I had written on my Process Guy blog. This reminded me that I have for some…

On not blogging conference
The last few weeks, for various reasons, have been rather disrupted and unsettled. There has been a lot going on but, somewhat unusually, I have not been very certain about what I think about it all. As a result there hasn’t been much blogging going on here. Keeping a regular blog going I find, aside from the issue of time available, requires a level of certainty and confidence in oneself and ones opinions which when…

An enforced pause
There was a worry that once the general election was over this blog would go into decline. Having concentrated so much on the battle for Luton South, the concern was that after all the votes had been counted and the winner declared I would have nothing to write about. That has proved not to be the case. The election result was not an end of the excitement, but the beginning of an extraordinary period in…

Election coverage on ‘Strange Thoughts’
Over the past couple of months this blog has been dominated by the election campaign in Luton South. I hadn’t intended talk of the election to be quite so dominant, but given that it has become so, I have been thinking about ways to up my game. So over the next couple of days I will be adding some new election focussed features and posts to extend and deepen this blog’s election coverage. First up…

Apologies for the break in service
A slightly weird combination of political campaigning, pub quizes, science fiction and confused sleep patterns has kept me from blogging and offline over the last few days. So I’ve missed out on a few things I wanted to blog about. Hopefully I should now be able to catch up with some of them. Although, as can be seen from this post’s timestamp I still need to work on those sleep patterns. Source: This content was…

Back on LibDemBlogs
Yesterday this blog was added to the Liberal Democrat blogs aggregator. Thanks Ryan! This excellent service at www.libdemblogs.co.uk combines the blog posts of all those people blogging who identify themselves as Liberal Democrats. It is a great way of keeping up with what is happening in Lib Dem land and promoting your blog. As an act of reciprocityI’ve added a link to the site to my sidebar.
