This week is Trustee’s Week 2010
This week (25th to 31st October) has been declared by the Charity Commission, NCVO, and others to be ‘Trustee’s Week’. This an annual event to highlight the work that trustees of charities do and to encourage more people to consider becoming a trustee. I am a trustee of Luton Culture and its one of the most rewarding things that I do.

I am a trustee, and I know organisations struggle to get new trustees. I’m not sure why it is, but the thing I dislike about trustee work is the light workload. Meetings are usually once every 4 to 8 weeks and between meetings there’s nothing to do. That’s okay if you work, but unemployed volunteers may find the workload too light.
I think small organisations should consider having one board of trustees managing several organisations which are independent from each other but linked through the board of trustees. That would help get stronger trustee boards.
