How not to answer a question
This morning Alex is on fantastic form brilliantly exposing David Cameron’s performance on the Today programme.
I didn’t hear the whole interview as I was running late enough as it was, but I knew it was going to go very bad for the Tory leader from the very beginning. Early on in the interview this supposed PR master made a classic beginners mistake in answer to one question, and I thought “ooh this is going to be good”.
I paraphrase but the interview said something like;
“Mr Cameron, you’ve had a bad few weeks haven’t you?”
In reply, he said something like;
“Yes, but here are a number of excuses why that has happened….”
Amateur! Any politician worth his or her salt, let alone the leader of a political party, should know that the thing to do in that situation is challenge the assumption in the question!
He should have said;
“Well no, actually, I haven’t had a bad few weeks…”
I’m beginning to think that the great secret about David Cameron is, he isn’t actually that good.
