Silence
I was rather brought up short today when, in the middle of the usual Monday morning rushing about and being late for things, I left the Town Hall to stand by the War Memorial with other Lutonians in silent tribute to murdered PC Jon Henry. Understandably it has coloured my mood, making today’s work on local political issues and preparations for this weeks full council meeting seem very small and petty.
I am conscious that PC Henry was the same age as me and I have been wondering if our paths had ever crossed.
I am not sure how appropriate this subject is for this blog, but I suddenly felt the need to in some manner express my admiration and respect for those, like PC Jon Henry, who put themselves at risk to serve our community. We rely on these ordinary men and women to keep our homes and streets safe but in doing so we sometimes may be asking them to pay too high a price.
