The Miliband Elephant
According to Nick Assinder on the BBC News website David Miliband is an elephant.
I don’t know whether Millenium is likely to comment, but I will.
Reporting on Charles Clarke and Alan Milburn’s launch of their new website, Assinder says;
“As one of the journalists at the website launch put it – there is a very large elephant sitting right behind you, we all know it, why don’t you just say it, you want a challenge to Gordon Brown………The particular elephant referred to, by the way, has a name. It is David Miliband. “
For a long time I have been convinced of the inevitability of a Brown leadership. But I am beginning to question my certainty. I think I may have been underestimating the level of panic that is building in the Labour party and panicking politicians can do odd things.
Various straws in the wind, such as the Clarke-Milburn thing, suggest that an anti-Brown move is gaining momentum. The main beneficiary of that is clearly David Miliband.
I think there is a possibility that this May’s locals could be really, really, really bad for Labour and if that happens then the panic within their ranks could turn to terror. If that happens all sorts of things become possible.
It could be a very interesting summer for elephants of all kinds.
